We’ve all heard horrible stories about animal testing. You know the ones that make you turn away in utter horror? Don’t worry, I’ll skip the gory details and share something a little more pleasant instead. If you’re an animal lover and would love to shop at stores that share your values, check out the three cruelty-free brands I’ve highlighted below.

Cruelty-Free Self-Tanning Foam

The term “cruelty-free” was first coined in the 1959, then later popularized in the 1970′s. By 1996, “cruelty-free” had become a common marketing claim among consumer products. But, without specific standards, companies were free to determine which products qualified as “cruelty-free.” This system of self-regulation led to the misrepresentation of many products and brands, that by today’s standard would be far from “cruelty-free.”

In response to this uncertainty, eight national animal protection groups came together to form the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). The CCIC promotes a single comprehensive standard and an internationally recognized Leaping Bunny logo. That way, when consumers see the logo, they know exactly what it stands for–without any fine print.

One of the brands that proudly displays the Leaping Bunny logo is Paula’s Choice. They have always been firm believers in creating cruelty-free products. In fact, they love their animals so much that employees bring their dogs to work!

When you shop at Paula’s Choice, you’ll find exceptional, irritant-free products that smooth wrinkles, reduce brown spots, shrink pores, treat acne, and solves tons of other skincare issues. A donation of 5.5%* is made to your favorite cause for each purchase, at no extra cost to you!

Chocolate Box Shimmer Cubes - Palette 06The Body Shop also abides by the Leaping Bunny program, and they have participated in countless cruelty-free campaigns to ensure happy lives for our furry friends. Most recently, in the past two years, The Body Shop has been supporting Cruelty Free International by tirelessly campaigning for a global ban on animal testing in cosmetics. Through creative efforts, ranging from as Mad Hatter tea parties to open top buses with samba bands, The Body Shop helped obtain over 1 million signatures for the cause. In the past 12 months, The Body Shop has made huge strides in the European Union, Indea, ASEAN, and China.

The Body Shop offers high-quality bath and body, skincare, makeup, hair, and fragrance products. A donation of 4%* is made to your favorite cause for each purchase, at no extra cost to you!

At e.l.f., you can find affordable makeup and beauty products that enhance your natural radiance. A donation of 4.5%* is made to your favorite cause for each purchase, at no extra cost to you!
